The homeowners came to us with a shorthand for what they wanted, calling it Spanish Modern and Modern Spanish almost interchangeably. The house itself was a stucco Tudor Revival: steep gables, a stone chimney, Gothic-arched doorways, dark original hardwood under decades of wear, and heavily textured plaster walls throughout. None of it read as the warm, white-walled home the family was describing. The work became a full re-skin of the house's character, floor by floor, done without erasing the arches and proportions that gave the original its bones.
